Reducing the environmental impact of single-use bags

by enabling ReBags!

The Journey

A couple of months ago, 14-year-old Tanish Kulkarni was on his way to school and saw the plastic-filled streets. As he dove deeper into the problem, he realized that some quick action was imperative. And with that thought, the idea of Project ReBags was born.

The idea of Project ReBags is simple and effective: introducing a system of reusable bags that can be circulated in a locality with a minimal fee being charged for their usage.
This would not only reduce plastic waste, but also make it more affordable for people to use environmentally-friendly bags.

Tanish then started working on this idea. He researched about the different kinds of bags that could be utilized and started reaching out to suppliers to understand specifics of the materials and cost of the bags. Eventually, he found a supplier that could produce high-quality bags at a relatively affordable price.

With that taken care of, Tanish started working on a business plan for the launch of the project. Despite facing many challenges along the way, Tanish remained determined to make his project a success, as he knew that the meaningful social impact it would create would greatly outweigh the effort put into it.

Following this, he reached out to local shops and shopkeeper cohorts to promote and brainstorm further about his idea.

Now, Project ReBags is soon to be launched!

How Project ReBags Works

Need

While shopping at your nearest kirana store, you realize that you forgot to take a bag with yourself. You can pay a decent amount and buy a cloth bag. However, with project ReBags, you have the option to rent a bag too!

How?

You pay an amount equivalent to the deposit plus the rental fee and get your ReBag. On return* of the Rebag, you receive the deposit amount effectively only paying for the usage of the Rebag!

Why?

Plastic and other non-biodegradable and single use bags are a huge threat to the environment. With Project Rebags, you are able to shop in an Ecofriendly way at an affordable price.

Where?

Available at selected stores.
